Tasting Note

92   2009  Dehlinger  Guadagni Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)   10/16/16  ($30)

  14.9% alc
Color: Deep ruby garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Sweet black and red licorice and black raspberry fruit with prominent briar. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight to light heavyweight. Excellent fruit and acidity with a smooth, rich mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, delicious. (3.5) Finish: Not quite as distinctive as the flavor and a little short. Briar lingers. (3.0)
Overall: Smooth, rich and pure licorice-like red and black berry fruit complemented by prominent DCV briar. Tastes like a Zinfandel made by a cool-climate Syrah producer. For a serious DCV Zin, I'd like to see a bit more tannic structure, but the quality of the fruit is very high. A very tasty wine for now drinking. Should remain this good for a couple of more years.
