92+   2009  Dehlinger  Frei Road Syrah (Russian River Valley)   1/17/14 ($45)

15.4 % alc
Color: Very deep purple ruby. (3.5) Bouquet: Rich, concentrated crushed blackberries with hints of oatmeal and coffee. Big, yet has some elegance. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with outstanding fruit and excellent acidity with smooth tannins underneath. Coats mouth beautifully. Silky. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but has some youthful astringency. (3.0) Finish: Lively acidity propels the fruit into a long finish with hints of lavender. Some fierce youthful acidity also lingers. (3.0)
Overall: A CA style for sure, but has Russian River elegance. Juicy with concentrated crushed blackberry fruit, also nuances of oatmeal, lavender and coffee beans. Silky mouthfeel making it drinkable now even though it still has youthful astringency. Decant for a few hours or age 4-5 more years. (16.5)
