Tasting Note

92   2007  Dehlinger  Estate Syrah (Russian River Valley)    4/7/17  ($50)

   14.9% alc
Color: Deep ruby garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Blackberry jam, black licorice and lavender complemented by subtle oil and tar nuances. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but shows a little anise bitterness. (3.0) Finish: Doubles down on black licorice and minerality. I like it. (3.5)
Overall: An excellent Russian River Syrah, showing the elegance, minerality and acidity of the area. Unfortunately, it did not equal the Goldridge in this vintage, being less complex and less expressive overall. Very enjoyable but not quite impressive. Still worth the price. Drink now and in the next few years. (16)
