Tasting Note

89                  1995 Château Dauzac                   10/13/06 ($24)

12.8 % alc
Color: Pretty medium garnet with some onion skin. Looks ready to go. (3.0) Bouquet: Gray clay and sweet black ink accompanying rich cassis fruit and some tannin. (3.5) Body: Middleweight that coats the mouth with good cassis and some dusty tannin that adds bitterness. Could have more concentrated fruit. (2.5) Flavor: Less of the sweetness of the bouquet and more bitter tannin, but still has some attractive cassis. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more forceful with spicy tannin and some length. (3.0)
Overall: Very enjoyable. The tannin says young, but the fruit says ready, implying that it may have more tannin than fruit. This is confirmed by an increasing amount of tannin relative to fruit as one goes down the bottle. This has the tannin to age for say 5 more years, but the fruit suggests drinking it soon (next 1-2 years). Nonetheless, a beautiful 11 yr old Bordeaux for the price. (14.5)
