Tasting Note

87+   2007  D'Angelo  Aglianico del Vulture Riserva  Caselle  (Basilicata)   4/7/14 ($26)

     13.5 % alc
Color: Deep garnet to brick red. (3.0) Bouquet: Dusty, volcanic earth and mineral terroir complements bittersweet black cherry with tobacco tannins. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with big tannins and very good fruit and acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but green tannins are prevalent, even though there's plenty of fruit underneath. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with tough, young tannins lingering in the mouth. (2.5)
Overall: Heavyweight with big, green tannins and bittersweet black cherry fruit underneath. A seriously structured wine, but not sure if the tannins will ever integrate. Also has interesting dusty, volcanic earth and nuances of sweet tobacco. Cellar for another 5+ years and pray the tannins fade before the fruit does. If drinking now, decant all day and serve with red meat. (14)
