Tasting Note

90  2006 Clos Roche Blanche - Touraine (Roussel et Barrouillet) Sauvignon #2 (Louis/Dressner)    10/12/12 ($10)

13.8% alc
Color: Bright yellow to light gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Floor wax and red bean paste with pear and mineral. Aromatic, interesting and very different. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent mineral/acidity and very good fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with bitter Fino Sherry character in the mix. More restrained than the bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Attractively bitter mineral flavors really turn on here intertwined with all the interesting flavors in the bouquet. Excellent length. (3.0)
Overall: This was very attractive from the start, though a bit austere upon release, but has now smoothed into a mature wine with interesting Fino Sherry-like complexity, including bitter minerality, floor wax and red bean paste nuances. All of this complements lively pear fruit. The bouquet and finish are both particularly strong. Compelling for its complexity combined with lively energy. Great value! 2006 was a very special vintage for this wine. (15.0)
