Tasting Note

91   2001 Cinnabar Central Coast Chardonnay    10/10/03($22)

Color: Pretty medium gold (3.0) Bouquet: Rich young fruit with prevalent oak and some alcohol, but nothing overdone (2.5) Body: Excellent power and balance with concentrated fruit and healthy amounts of acid and oak. (3.5) Flavor: Delicious Pineapple and pear fruit with well-integrated toasty oak.(3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more restrained, still long and satisfying.(3.0)
Overall: An interesting combination of grapes from along the coast, giving the tropical fruit of Monterey or St. Barbara with the Burgundian acidity and refined fruit of St. Cruz Mtns. A little lacking in class, but a delicious wine with the concentration and balance to improve. Great value!! (15.5)
