Tasting Notes

88   2009  Chignard  Fleurie  Les Moriers   3/5/11 ($19)

     13% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Red plum and dry red and black raspberry fruit with minerality underneath. Restrained. (3.0) Body: Silky in the mouth with excellent acidity and good fruit. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Shows elegant Fleurie-style fruit that's a little closed at this early stage with a touch of cinnamon. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet. Fruit could be sweeter here. Also shows some bitter tannin. (2.5)
Overall: Very good Fleurie that shows the concentration of the vintage. It has good fruit, but comes off a little dry, due to tannin. Not enough sweetness at this point, unlike the '08, which was charming right out the gate. It should open with 2-5 years bottle age. It definitely has the structure to improve. (14.0)
