Tasting Note

92  2009 Francois Chidaine  Les Argiles  Vouvray   10/15/11 ($25)

100%CheninBlanc   13.5% alc
Color: Medium deep gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Melon, beeswax and green apple with excellent acidity. Briny with elegance and a touch of cinnamon stick. (3.5) Body: Light Heavyweight with excellent acidity and fruit. Rich mouthfeel that coats. (3.5) Flavor: Drier and more stony than the bouquet with the fruit being less expressive. Still very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Interesting tartness returns with more precision. Long. (3.0)
Overall: Briny/stony with melon, beeswax and green apple fruit complemented by spice. A dry Chenin Blanc that goes well with food, but has enough appeal to drink alone. Needs time to open totally (2-5 years), but already elegant, complex and delicious. More giving at this point than his '09s from Montlouis. (16)
