Tasting Note

93   2010  Chateau d'Epire   Savennieres (Loire)   1/26/18  ($20)

   13.5% alc
Color: Yellow straw with a hint of copper. (3.0) Bouquet: Dry waxy pear with intense minerals and wet stones. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with outstanding acidity and excellent fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more intense. (3.5) Finish: Very long and persistent showing the same intensity as the flavor, but with maybe a little more elegance. Best part. (3.5)
Overall: What was always an excellent wine with outstanding potential, is finally reaching that potential. The intensity of the mineral and stone flavors is impressive and it has plenty of waxy pear fruit to make it attractive. It is bone dry and still somewhat austere just the way Savennieres is supposed to be. I love it, but it's not for everyone. Outstanding now, but could continue to improve for another 5 years. Amazing value! (16.5)
