Tasting Note

92+   2011  Chateau Maris  Continuité de Nature  (Minervois - La Liviniere)  2/13/15  ($27)

100% Carignan, Organic grapes, Biodynamic Estate, bottled by Domaine des Méditerranéens  15% alc
Color: Deep black-purple garnet. Beautiful and dense. (3.5) Bouquet: Sticks, Provencal herbs, leather and petrol combine with spicy oak, black licorice and creamy black plum and black cherry fruit. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins underneath. Rich, silky mouthfeel that coats. (3.0) Flavor: Creamy licorice-infused black fruits are more expressive eher. Delicious! (3.5) Finish: Long and tasty, but not quite as intense as flavor. (3.0)
Overall: An outstanding Carignan that is quite Syrah-like, showing more weight and higher alcohol than Carignan near the Spanish border, such as those from Corbieres. Nonetheless, the fruit concentration and Southern French terroir are impressive. Excellent now after a 2+ hour decant and should improve in the next 3-5 years. (16.0)
