Tasting Note

92+   2003  Chateau Duhart-Milon (Pauillac)   11/6/15  ($35)

   13% alc
Color: Very deep garnet with just a hint of browning at the rim, but no clearing. (3.5) Bouquet: Aromatic, cedar-infused cassis with mature forestal spice and tobacco. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with excellent tannins, acidity and minerality with enough fruit to meet. Coats very nicely. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little heavy-handed with some bitter tannins and minerality. Almost drinks like a Napa Cab. (3.0) Finish: Cedary tannins linger, along with heavy fruit. Needs time to soften. (3.0)
Overall: A Cabernet with very fine potential, being beautifully structured and well-balanced, but drinks a bit heavy-handed for a Medoc. Almost tastes like a Napa Cab, but the fruit is drier/less ripe. The cassis fruit just meets its big frame, but needs time to sweeten and become more prominent. Decant and drink with red meat for now or let age another 3-5 years. (16)
