Tasting Note

91+   2005  Chateau Caronne Saint Gemme  (Haut Medoc)   3/28/15  ($30)

64% Cabernet, 33% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot   13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Cassis and cedar with Medoc earth, white chalk and herbal/forestal nuances. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit concentration, acidity and smooth tannins. Coats mouth nicely. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Best part with cassis and smooth, sweet tobacco-infused tannins lingering. (3.5)
Overall: Shows concentrated cassis fruit and plentiful, smooth tannins. Amazing for this wine, drinks like a fine classified growth. Clearly better than the '09 and '10 versions, and may be the best vintage ever for this Chateau. Excellent now after a 2 hr decant and should be at its best in 2-3 years. (16.0)
