Tasting Note

92   2005   Chateau Caronne St. Gemme (Haut-Medoc)   3/11/18  ($20)

13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with just a hint of browning and no clearing. (3.0) Bouquet: Excellent cassis and blackberry fruit with interesting forestal nuances, cedar, gravelly earth, grafite and fresh peas, all in an elegant package. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins. Tannins and fruit coat the mouth beautifully, even silky. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more expressive. (3.5) Finish: Long and smooth, but could be more distinctive. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent from release, this has finally reached full maturity. The substantial tannins have smoothed out and the fruit and silky mouthfeel are pretty. The balance and structure are better than any other vintage of this Chateau I've tasted. A wonderful accomplishment for this Cru Bourgeois and an amazing value!!! At its best now and in the next 2 years. (16)
