Tasting Note

91   2009  Chateau Batailley   (Pauillac)   1/29/17  ($40)

   13% alc
Color: Deep garnet, very healthy with no browning. (3.0) Bouquet Gray clay and briar complement ripe blackberry/cassis fruit. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins. Tangy mouthfeel that coats somewhat. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but terroir is a bit more expressive here. (3.5) Finish: Very good length, but not quite as expressive as flavor. (3.0)
Overall: A well balanced Pauillac from a ripe vintage. The fruit really sticks out here, but the terroir is not overwelmed. A bit too ripe for me, but would make an excellent introduction to Pauillac for a CA Cabernet lover. Drinking very well now, but could improve in the next 2-4 years. (15.5)
