Tasting Note

92+   2008  Chateau du Cedre  Cahors   2/1/13 ($23)

 mostly Malbec   14% alc
Color: Black purple garnet, dense. (3.5) Bouquet: Concentrated black currants, cocoa and cedar with Bordeaux-like restraint. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight that coats with density, but silky at the same time. Outstanding structure and fruit. (4.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but the fruit is more lively, showing sweet/tart blackberries and loads of smooth tannins. (3.0) Finish: Long and even more intense than flavor with fruit, cedary tannins and a slightly rustic, smooth earthiness lingering. (3.0)
Overall: This is impressive stuff with big fruit and big, smooth tannins. Has some dusty terroir with a red clay nuance, somewhat reminiscent of a Graves with Medoc power. Amazing quality for the price! If this were a Medoc, it would be $80+. Can be drunk now with a decant, but should reward 5+ years bottle age. (16.5)
