Tasting Notes

89+   2006  Carol Shelton  Black Magic   9/23/11 ($20-375mL)

  6.5% residual sugar     15.3% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Lots of briar with Zinberry. (3.0) Body: Excellent acidity and very good fruit. A light heavyweight that's balanced with lots of spice. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with spice making up for any deficiency in distinctive fruit. (3.0) Finish: Tasty, but could be longer. (2.5)
Overall: This is a very enjoyable, drink me now style of late harvest Zin. I love the spice and the amount of fruit is quite sufficient, but it could be more distinctive. A bit less sweet than many late harvest Zins, making it better with cheese and nuts than dessert. Probably at its best right now, but should remain this good for a couple of years. (14.5)
