Tasting Note

92+   2015  Carlisle   Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)    4/7/18  ($47)

87% Zinfandel, 13% Mixed Blacks and Whites (Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Grand Noir, Peloursin, Trousseau Noir, Tempranillo, Muscadelle, Malvasia, Muscat and 30 other varieties)   15.0% alc 788cases
Color: Very deep purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Blackberry and blueberry fruit complemented by cedary oak, eucalyptus, herbs and minerality. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and tannins. Coats the mouth very nicely, also shows some astringency. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with flavor concentration. (3.5) Finish: Long with fruit and minerality being most persistent. Also shows some tart astringency here. (3.0)
Overall: Concentrated fruit, herbs and minerality that are typical of this vineyard. The blackberry and blueberry fruit are attractive now, but needs time for the outstanding structure to calm a little. Try to wait 2-3 years, if you can, to let this integrate and then drink over the following 3-5 years. (16.5)
