Tasting Note

93+   2013  Carlisle  Rossi Ranch Grenache (Sonoma Valley)   11/24/17  ($38)

91% Grenache, 9% Mourvedre    14.9% alc, 216 cases produced
Color: Medium black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Tart red plum and red cherry with sweet wood and red licorice nuances. Very pretty and delicious. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with outstanding, pure fruit, acidity and very subtle, smooth tannins underneath. Has a smooth, tangy mouthfeel that coats. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but all the flavors combine to make something even more special in the mouth. Enticingly seducting! (3.5) Finish: This may be the best part with the pure fruit being joined by intense bittersweet red and black licorice and sweet herbs. (4.0)
Overall: A hedonistically delicious Grenache with amazing fruit purity (red plum, red cherry and bittersweet licorice) complemented by sweet cooking herbs and smooth old barrel wood flavors. A wine that can satisfy both the Francophile and CA wine lover alike. Outstanding now and in the next few years. (17)
