Tasting Note

91   2012  Carlisle  Limerick Lane Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)   3/21/15  ($43)

98% Zinfandel, 2% Mixed Black Varieties (Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Trousseau noir)   15.2% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Sweet cherry-vanilla with briary spice. (3.0) Body: Silky/tangy mouthfeel. Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit and acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Briar, licorice and smooth tannins back up the cherry/vanilla fruit making it more forceful. (3.5) Finish: Long, briary finish, but not yet as expressive as the flavor. (3.0)
Overall: The bouquet is smooth and sweet, similar to a fruity Alexander Valley Zin, but the briary spice and licorice come on in the flavor and finish, reminding you that this vineyard is on the DCV border. Excellent acidity also keeps it lively. With all that cherry-vanilla fruit, it reminds me of Seghesio's Home Ranch Zin. If drinking now give it several hours in a decanter or 3-5 years bottle age. (15.5)
