Tasting Note

91   2011  Carlisle   Steiner Gruner Veltliner   3/2/18  ($34)

100% Gruner Veltliner   14.1% alc 92 cases
Color: Persistent yellow tending towards light gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Lemon merangue that's lively with subtle minerality. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but less precise with a touch of bitterness. Does show subtle spice in the mix. (3.0) Finish: More ripe and rich than the flavor and again with a touch of bitterness. (3.0)
Overall: Interesting and rich with lemon merangue fruit. A solid middleweight that is probably at its best now. It has lost the austerity that it showed when first released and is smooth and well balanced, but does show a touch of bitterness in the flavor and finish. Without this, it would probably deserve another point or so. (15.5)
