Tasting Note

92   2011  Carlisle   Papa's Block Syrah (Russina River Valley)   4/28/18  ($45)

100% Syrah   14.5% alc, 394cases
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Tart blackberry and black cherry with elegant herbs and white pepper in the background. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Tart tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but fruit is more expressive. (3.5) Finish: Long and smooth, but needs time to become more expressive. (3.0)
Overall: This is the leanest Papa's Block I've tasted, showing tart blackberry and black cherry fruit with subtle herbs and white pepper. Smooth and easy-to-drink even now, I hope this will become more open in fruit and expressive in character in the next few years. (15.5)
