Tasting Note

92+  2011  Carlisle  Bedrock Vineyard Mourvedre  (Sonoma Valley)   7/18/14 ($40)

100% Mourvedre  14.2 % alc    110 cases
Color: Deep purple/black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Forestal nuances of tree bark, eucalyptus and briar combined with rich, creamy black raspberry, tart cherry and nectarine fruit. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with loads of big yet relatively smooth tannins, and excellent acidity and fruit. Rich mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more expressive. Interesting and delicious even now. (3.5) Finish: Flamboyant aromatics with forestal complexity leading the charge. A little youthful astringency and bitterness here, which will resolve with time. (3.0)
Overall: A very expressive, classically-styled Mourvedre with prominent forestal nuances of tree bark, eucalyptus and briar. The black raspberry, nectarine and tart cherry fruit have a creaminess to them despite the big, smooth tannins. I like this a lot already, but likely to improve in the next 5-7 years. Decant for now drinking. (16.0)
