Tasting Note

92+(?)   2010  Carlisle  Compagni Portis (Sonoma Valley)   2/17/17  ($30)

Field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, and other mixed whites   14.2% alc 87cases
Color: Silver yellow. (3.0) Bouquet: Wonderful Gewurz spice combined with dry minerality and pear fruit. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Tangy mineral mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with pretty flowery flavors - a bouquet of daisies. (3.5) Finish: Long, flowery and spicy. (3.0)
Overall: Tastes a lot like a serious, dry Alsacian Gewurz, but the Riesling gives more mineral and the Trousseau gives additional complexity. Very compelling stuff that is well balanced and mineral infused. Best Gewurz-based wine from CA I've tasted. Excellent now and bracingly clean. I'm curious to see what happens to this in the next 2-4 years. I'm sure it will be good, but have no idea where its going. (16.0)
