Tasting Note

92+   2007  Carlisle  Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel    5/27/16  ($33)

63% Teldeschi Zin, 30% Mounts Ranch Zin, 5% DelCarlo PS, 2% Papera Carignane 360cases   15.1% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Loads of expressive briar, dusty earth, some cooking spices and iron complement big blackberry, boysenberry and black cherry fruit. Just a touch of heat. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with a rich, silky mouthfeel that coats big time. Outstanding fruit, acidity and smooth tannins. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with fruit even more prominent. Fierce and Delicious. (3.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet with lots of iron and briar going on and on. (3.0)
Overall: Classic DCV Zin in a big way. Reminiscent of Ravenswood's Teldeschi, but the fruit is more ripe and generous. Also, only has a small amount of Petite Sirah in the mix, so is ready to drink now and in the next few years. Unlike Ravenswood's '07 with a significant PS component, which still tastes quite young and will likely improve for another 10 years. This is seriously spicy (briar, dust, cooking spices and iron) with loads of delicious black fruit.
