Tasting Note

92   2007  Carlisle  Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)   1/31/16  ($40)

87% Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir   14.8% alc
Color: Very deep garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Zinberry and black plum propelled by acidity with black pepper. (3.0) Body: Excellent fruit and outstanding acidity and tannins. Light heavyweight. (3.5) Flavor: Spicy with cooking spices, black pepper and menthol. The Zinberry black fruit is sufficient, but more about spice than fruit. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but shows some austere acidity. (3.0)
Overall: A serious Zin that is beautifully structured with loads of racy acidity and smooth tannins. The solid Zinberry and black plum fruit is there to meet, but the structure and spice nuances are most prominent. This has plenty of life left to improve in the next 5 years. If drinking now, decant for several hours. (16.0)
