Tasting Note

88   2010  Capezzana  Barco Reale di Carmignano   4/20/14 ($13)

70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Canaiolo   13.5% alc
Color: Medium deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dusty Tuscan terroir, black cherry and dried blackberries. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent acidity and smooth tannins with sufficient fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Paralles bouquet, but restrained at this point. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with Tuscan terroir lingering. (2.5)
Overall: A somewhat rustic, Sangiovese blend that is very Tuscan in character. This is in contrast to other, more typical Sangiovese blends containing Cabernet, which often take on a character resembling a CA wine just as much as a Tuscan wine. The Cabernet does give this wine added structure in the form of tannins, which just seems to reinforce its Tuscan signature. Great for pizza, pasta in meat sauce and roasted meats. Excellent value! (14.0)
