Tasting Note

89   2005 Capcanes  Mas Donis         9/5/08 ($15)

85% Grenache 15% Syrah   14% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Black cherry with tart acidity, fancy oak and a sweet tobacco component. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Again, parallels bouquet with length, but chalky acidity sticks out a little. (2.5)
Overall: Very, very good Spanish Garnacha with a pinch of Syrah. Strangely enough, it reminds me more of a Tuscan Sangiovese (having lots of dusty cherry fruit), than a Rhone, with a smoky component (very Spanish) and a cooking spice component (very Southern Rhone) thrown in. Drinks great right now as long as you give it an hour in a decanter. Should hold or possibly even improve in the next 2-3 years. Great value! (14.5)
