Tasting Note

91+     1995 Chateau Calon Segur      11/16/08 ($70)

12.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with a little onion skin and a hint of clearing, but far from old. (3.5) Bouquet: Cedar and milk chocolate with almonds complementing cassis and blackberry fruit. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity and tannin, balanced by fruit and cigarbox.. (3.0) Flavor: Almonds and cigarbox met by blackberries and a solid dry tannic backbone of black pepper. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor. Somewhat restrained at present, but long. (3.0)
Overall: In an intermediate phase between youth and maturity. This has many elements of maturity, but is somewhat closed, showing a lot of cigarbox, instead of sweet, mature fruit and secondary nuances. Probably needs 2-5 more years to be at its best. (15.5)
