Tasting Note

87  2011  COS  Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico  (Sicilia)   10/3/14 ($30)

 60% Nero d'Avola, 40% Frappato  13% alc
Color: Medium black cherry with hints of autumn leaf colors. (3.0) Bouquet: Fresh mint and herbal (Strega-like) nuances complement slightly over-ripe cherry. (3.0) Body: Light middleweight with very good acidity and decent fruit. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but less distinctive. Fruit is somewhat flabby and non-descript. (2.5) Finish: Paralels flavor with good length. (2.5)
Overall: A tasty, easy-to-drink, somewhat non-descript wine that is a bit too ripe for its own good. Tastes more like $15-20 quality than $30+. Obviously not a totally successfully vintage, based on others I've tasted. Still quite enjoyable with the herbal nuances adding interest, but not worth the price. Could improve a little in the next couple of years, but I wouldn't push aging it in this vintage. (13.5)
