Tasting Notes

90   1998  Brolio  Castello di Brolio  Chianti Classico   6/20/10 ($35)

          13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with a hint of little onion skin at the rim. (3.0) Bouquet: Nutty (almond nd pistachio) with stewed cherry fruit. Mature. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent balance, fruit to acid to tannin to oak. Has a lively, yet smooth mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with fruit and nuts taking on an attractive sweetness here. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with pistachios lingering. Smooth and rich.(3.0)
Overall: Excellent, fully mature CC Riserva. Pistachio and almond permiate the stewed cherry fruit, supported by very good acidity and tannin. Its excellent balance and more distinctive Sangiovese character make it more in harmony and enjoyable than the '98 Casalferro at this point. Drink up. (15)
