Tasting Note

92+   2007  Brochelle  Zinfandel (Paso Robles)  7/18/09 ($35)

  15.6% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Very ripe fig, black plum and boysenberry uplifted by excellent acidity. Very concentrated. Excellent already, but needs some time for the fruit to integrate with the acidity and alcohol. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent concentrated fruit and acidity. Very viscous, coating the mouth beautifully. It does have some heat, but the dense fruit keeps it in balance, although it is youthfully fierce. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet but more delicious with concentrated, very ripe fruit. Acidity keeps it lively. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but shows more heat and could be longer. Still very tasty with length. (3.0)
Overall: Another flamboyant and delicious vintage for this wine, similar to '03, '05 and '06. It takes ripeness to the brink, but racy acidity keeps it balanced. As usual, this is drinking beautifully right from the start, but may improve a little as it smooths out in the next 1-3 years. (16.0)
