Tasting Note

92    2005 Brochelle Paso Robles Zinfandel     9/7/07 ($30)

15.6% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Zinberries, figs and plums propelled by excellent acidity and some volatile alcohol with healthy amounts of briar and oak. (3.5) Body: Liqueur-like, coating the mouth with concentrated fruit and excellent acidity. A balanced light heavyweight. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. Rich, concentrated and delicious with just a little alcohol sticking out at present. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with a little more heat. Still long and tasty. (3.0)
Overall: Another excellent showing, equaling the ’03 and surpassing the ’04 with no over-ripeness and more uplifting acidity. It’s very enjoyable now after an hour in a decanter and should be at its best in the next 1-3 years. A beautiful example of rich, ripe, flamboyant Zin fruit with excellent acidity and briary complexity playing supporting roles. Very well done! (16.0)
