Tasting Note

92+    2003 Brochelle Paso Robles Zinfandel     4/29/07 ($30)

15.4% alc
Color: Very deep garnet, can barely see through. (3.5) Bouquet: Very ripe, wild Zinberry with fresh, ripe fig. Very concentrated and multidimensional, but a little alcohol is showing. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent, slightly chalky acidity supporting concentrated fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, with a gamy meat component. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, long and delicious, but a little austere acidity lingers. (3.0)
Overall: This has a flamboyant Paso Robles Zin personality that is not for everyone (but I love it). This is one of the finest examples of Paso Robles Zin that I’ve tasted. I believe this is meant to be drunk in its youth (drink now), but it could still improve in the next year or so. The 2004 in this was a little more on the over-ripe side (less to my liking), though similar in intensity. It will be interesting to see if this wine can be repeated, or better yet, surpassed by another vintage. This is one to watch.(16.0)
