Tasting Note

90+  2006  Catherine & Pierre Breton  Bourgueil  Clos Sénéchal  7/31/09 ($26)

100% Cabernet Franc     12% alc  (organic)
Color: Deep purple-black cherry/raspberry (3.0) Bouquet: Root beer and subtle clay terroir complement cherry and black raspberry fruit. Rich and interesting. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit and structure (excellent tannins and very good acidity). Dry tannins coat the mouth along with the fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as rich and sweet. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet, but tart, chalky tannin lingers. Needs some time to open and integrate. (2.5)
Overall: Excellent Cab. Franc with interesting terroir and elegance. On the other hand, it has some dry, chalky tannin and tartness that need time to subside and integrate with the fruit. This should improve in the next 1-4 years. Even now a serious and interesting expression of the varietal.(15.0)
