Tasting Note

90    2002 Jean Marc Boillot Montagny 1er Cru    2/27/04($22)

Color: Medium yellow.(2.5) Bouquet: Lemon, mineral and vanilla with good intensity.(3.0) Body: Nice balance of acidity and fruit. Has impressive concentration for the appellation. Showing some cinnamon/vanilla complexity.(3.0) Flavor: Multilayered with lemon and pear fruit combined with vanilla complexity. Has an intense lemon zest zing to it. Very attractive Burgundian style.(3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but not quite as forward at this point, but still relatively long.(3.0)
Overall: As is true with many young white Burgundies, this wine improves with air and as it warms up. Has fruit like the 2000 and acidity like the 2001, but is a bit more intense than either one. Based on these three vintages, I really like the style of this wine with its combo of mineral-acidity and complex Burgundian fruit. Already excellent and might improve with a year or two of bottle age, but very enjoyable and lively now, so why wait.(15.0)
