Tasting Note

94+   2015  Bedrock   Pagani Ranch Heritage (Sonoma Valley)    3/31/18  ($48)

Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Carignan, Mataro, Petit Bouschet   14.5% alc
Color: Very deep purple/garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Raw red meat and animal fur complement dense blackberry fruit and coffee beans with loads of herb and spice nuances. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins. Silky, tangy mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with fruit more expressive. Flavors are very concentrated. (3.5) Finish: Long and tasty. Doesn't let up. (3.5)
Overall: Very concentrated blackberry fruit with a wonderful assortment of cooking herbs, coffee beans and exotic spice nuances. Even though it is mostly Zinfandel, the other grape varieties add a lot to its personality. It's weight and body drink more like a Mourvedre or a Syrah than a Zin. Reminds me of some of the more exotic Chateauneuf du Papes with many different varietals adding complexity, but this is Zinfandel-based instead of Grenache-based, which suits me just fine! Can be drunk now with a long decant, but will reward 4-8 years bottle age. (17.5)
