Tasting Note

90+    2009  Luna Beberide  Finca la Cuesta  (Bierzo)   2/20/12 ($22)

 100% Mencia  14% alc
Color: Deep purple black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Black raspberry, red cherry and pomegranate. Some baking spices and cedar thrown in. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with elegance. Excellent acidity adds tartness to the lively fruit, and very good tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with a touch of vanilla oak. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with acidity and minerality giving it length. (3.0)
Overall: An elegant and tasty Mencia with black raspberry, red cherry and pomegranate fruit propelled by excellent acidity and minerality with some cedar and spice thrown in. Significently better than the '08, but not as complex as the '05 and not as concentrated as the '07. Nonetheless, this should develop nicely over the next 3-4 years. (15.0)
