Tasting Note

91   2010  Baumard  Savennieres (Loire)   4/17/14 ($19)

100% Chenin Blanc   13% alc
Color: Medium silver yellow. (3.0) Bouquet: Musky, tart pear and green apple fruit with minerals. Elegant and clean. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit, acidity and minerality. Very well balanced. (3.0) Flavor: Paralles bouquet, but more forward. (3.0) Finish: Even more expressive than flavor with tangy mineral and leesy complexity lingering. (3.5)
Overall: An excellent Savennieres at a great price with intense minerality and acidity. The finish is particularly strong. Shows tasty pear and green apple fruit with musky highlights. Well balanced and clean. Drink now and in the next 5 years. Probably the best vintage of this wine I've tasted. Its quality is comparable to Chateau d'Epire, but I'd give the latter the edge, in this vintage at least, due to more elegance. (15.5)
