Tasting Note

91    2010  Bernard Baudry  Les Grézeaux  Chinon    6/10/12 ($25)

 100% CabernetFranc      13% alc
Color: Deep purple maroon. (3.0) Bouquet: Creamy rich black cherry/cassis with lively minerality and elegant, distinctive radish and red pepper nuances. Attractive earthiness in the background. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit and acidity and some smooth tannins underneath. Silky/tangy mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as open. (3.0) Finish: Tangy mineral/acidity gives excellent length to the fruit. Also shows fresh mint here. (3.0)
Overall: This is delicious with sweet, creamy black cherry/cassis fruit and excellent acidity/minerality to make it lively. Has excellent acidity-based structure with smooth tannins underneath, yet elegant. Shows complexity even now, which should become more interesting with 3-4 years bottle age. Classic Chinon. Excellent value! (16.0)
