Tasting Note

91   2013   Barral   Faugeres (Languedoc)    4/6/18  ($30)

50% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 20% Cinsault    14% alc
Color: Deep black raspberry to garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Wild black raspberry and boysenberry fruit with interesting game, smoke and stick nuances. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and fruit, very subtle tannins underneath. Silky/tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with root beer flavors more prominent. (3.0) Finish: Long and more expressive and distinctive than the flavor with tannins still smooth, but more persistent. (3.5)
Overall: A very tasty, drink me now Faugeres, showing the root beer, game, smoke and forestal complexity that one would expect from this wine, complementing easy-to-drink fruit flavors of wild black raspberry and boysenberry. More easy going than the '09 or the '10, but still shows excellent balance and even some tannins. Drink now and in the next 5 years. Normally $30, I got this on a close out for $20. A value even at the regular price, it's a steal at $20. (15.5)
