Tasting Note

93   2004  Barone Ricasoli  Casalferro (Super Tuscan)   9/19/15  ($40)

75% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot   14% alc
Color: Very deep black garnet, still showing hints of purple. (4.0) Bouquet Blackberry cassis and black cherry preserves, cedar and roasted nuts with dusty Tuscan terroir. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with outstanding fruit and acidity. Has a silky mouthfeel that coats. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but somewhat restrained at present. (3.0) Finish: Best part. Fruit is very attractive and long. (3.5)
Overall: Delicious, dense Merlot (blackberry cassis) fruit combines with racy black cherry Sangiovese, cedar, roasted nuts and dusty Tuscan earth. A beautiful example of Old World character meets New World fruit. Drink now and in the next few years. Note that in more recent vintages this wine is now 100% Merlot (I prefer this blend). (17)
