Tasting Note

92   2002 Archery Summit Premier Cuvee    6/10/06 ($27)

Color: Medium deep Burgundy robe with some purple still. (3.0) Bouquet: Delicious cherry cola fruit with black truffles, India spices and a touch of smooth tobacco. (4.0) Body: Very good acidity supporting delicious fruit with just the right amount of oak, coats the mouth. A solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels the bouquet, but less giving, may need time to be totally open. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet, but silky with exotic spice being more aromatic in the long, smooth finish. Still has a youthful, slightly acidic bite (3.0)
Overall: An excellent P.N. that beautifully displays what Oregon Pinot is all about, i.e., Burgundian style and complexity combined with delicious New World fruit, not as ripe as CA. Showing more than it did a year ago and it was delicious even then. I don’t know if it will improve from here, but it might get even more aromatic and complex (as it loses fruit). It would be interesting to follow this one in the next 1-3 years, unfortunately my last bottle. (16.0)
