Tasting Note

89   2012  Ameztoi  Rubentis (Rosé)  Getariako Txakolina   5/3/13 ($18)

50% Hondarribi Zuri, 50% Hondarribi Beltza    10.5% alc
Color: Light silver pink. (3.0) Bouquet: Minerals and crisp acidity, smells something like a Sancerre, but more elegant. (3.0) Body: Lightweight with excellent flavor intensity, fruit and acidity. Slight spritz. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with citrus, tart pear and strawberry fruit. (3.0) Finish: Citrus and minerals linger, but not as distinctive as flavor. Pretty, but short. (2.5)
Overall: Light, crisp and refreshing with pretty citrus, pear and strawberry. Drinks more like a white (say from Chablis) than a rose, but has surprising flavor intensity for its light weight. Perfect for summer and goes well with lighter fare, especially any kind of fish. Has an alka-seltzer like spritz when first poured, which may be off-putting to some, but this subsides as it sits in the glass. (14.5)
