Tasting Note

90   2009  Afton Mountain  Cabernet Franc Reserve (Monticello, VA)   1/11/13 ($25)

  13.0% alc
Color: Deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Black raspberry and bitter cherry fruit complemented by baking spices and vanilla. Expressive with slight herbal nuance. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with a silky mouthfeel. Excellent fruit and acidity. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Excellent length with persistent cherry, black raspberry and vanilla. (3.0)
Overall: One of the best Virginia Cabernet Francs I've had, showing impressive concentration and acidity-based structure. The baking spices and vanilla oak make it interesting. A joy now, but could improve in the next 2-3 years. (15.0)
