Tasting Note

87+   2006 100 Marias - Alentejano (Portugal)          11/17/08 ($10)

Color: Medium purple garnet.(3.0) Bouquet: Blackberries and black licorice with some sulfury minerality. A little cheap perfume, but still aromatically attractive. Flamboyant. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with nice fruit and acidity. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but a little smoother. (2.5) Finish: Flowery with sulfur and mineral. (2.5)
Overall: A very good, ripe, modern-style wine that resembles an old vines Zin, but also has a sulfur-infused minerality that makes it interesting. Probably a mark of the region(?). Flamboyant style. (13.5)
